Starlight Knitting Society is a beautiful yarn shop located among a mix
of small businesses and residential homes in the Woodstock neighborhood of
Portland, OR. The shop is full of inspiring products, exciting events and a
devoted stitching community. There is a strong focus on color and fine
fibers, with a variety of price points to suit all needs. The shop decor is
a mix of modern and vintage touches with knitting inspired art sprinkled
throughout. Starlight offers all levels of knitting and crochet classes, as
well as a few cross stitching and weaving classes. They also hope to add
dyeing classes in the future. The shop recently celebrated its 3-Year
Anniversary. Congrats!
Starlight is also host to many inspiring yarn events, including visiting
instructors like Andrea Rangel and Bristol Ivy, knitting retreats like Camp
Starlight, and upcoming trunk shows from Woolfolk (December 7, 2018 ) and
Spincycle (January 19, 2019). They will be
at
Vogue Knitting Live New York this coming January 2019 and
Stitches West in February 2019. They will also be participating
in the popular
Rose City Yarn Crawl in March 2019.

The People
At the head of this vibrant stitching retail community is owner, Melissa
Nelson, who when asked why she opened Starlight, says “I kept thinking that
someone would open a shop in my neighborhood, but nobody did! I had a shop
about 10 years ago, so I just decided to do it again." And we are so glad
she did!
The shop has a wonderfully diverse staff who are all invested in Starlight.
They are bonded together in yarn and fiber. Every one of them is excited to
share their love of yarn with customers. Their commitment to customer
service is beyond excellent.
It is no doubt that this customer service, along with the beautiful product
selection and fun shop events, is what draws their customers to the shop.
