Warm Up at Northfield Yarn
Northfield Yarn is located in the heart of the historic district of
Northfield, MN, a picturesque college town about 45 minutes south of the
Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). Northfield is a delightful place to
spend a day (or a weekend), with lots of great shops, local eateries, and
abundant arts, history, and culture.
The shop opened in September 2011 and recently celebrated its 7th birthday.

A Tight-Knit Community
When the owner of the shop, Cynthia Gilbertson, used to live in Minneapolis, she spent much of her time
attending knitting clinics and teaching
knitting through Community Ed. When she relocated and moved to Northfield
and there was no local yarn store, she decided to open one. "I love the
community that forms over fiber, and the way people support each other when
they are learning something new or stretching their abilities," says
Cynthia. "I wanted to create the sort of place that would inspire people
and encourage them to come together."
Northfield has a wonderful selection of yarn and has been a supplier of
Crystal Palace Bamboo for years. "We have been carrying Crystal Palace
single and double points since the day we opened. New needles come along all
the time, and reps try to persuade us to switch to different brands, but
these needles are tried and true!"
The shop offers many classes and shop events, including seasonal Yarn
Tastings and two "Finishing Frenzies" each year. "We are always coming up
with new ways to get people together over their common love of fiber!"
