Fengari has been providing the coastal community of Half Moon Bay, CA with supplies for fiber arts since 2000. This grandma-and-granddaughter duo has a selection of yarns so colorful and abundant there’s something for any of your project needs.
Ann has been involved in textiles
nearly all her life, having been taught by her grandmother to
crochet when she was 8 years old and to knit a little later on. Back
in Oklahoma, where Ann lived until the second world war, she
remembers how her grandmother raised sheep, spun the wool, dyed the
yarn with onion peel and walnut, and then, knit a sweater. "My
grandmother could do anything!" Ann says, "And she wouldn't hesitate
to attempt new things."
Like Ann, Kim learned to knit and crochet from her grandmother.
In 2000, Ann and Kim bought the local yarn store in Half Moon Bay,
thinking it would be something they could do together that they
would enjoy. They renamed the store, "Fengari," - a suggestion from
Ann's husband, Bill, who came up with the Greek word meaning "moon."
The shop offers bi-monthly open-forum classes, which are kept small (no
more than 5 students) to ensure everyone receives personal instruction.
Throughout the year, Fengari offers themed classes, such as sock-making,
designer shawls, introductory crochet and knitting, hat-making, fingerless
gloves, thrummed hats and needle felting.
As a tight-knit bunch, the Fengari team is always there to help you find
what you’re looking for, and for those new to knitting, we frequently offer
workshops to help you feel comfortable in your craft. After a stop by our
store, you’ll want to get back to your knitting needles right away. Get
ready to be inspired.
